Billboard launches new global charts

On 14 September (Monday), Billboard unveiled two new charts which rank top songs globally. These weekly charts are Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. They will be based on worldwide streams and download sales, which will give us a clear indication of which songs are the most popular on Earth now!

The first Billboard Global 200 is topped by “WAP” (Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion). It is followed by “Dynamite” (BTS) at no. 2, “Mood” (24kGoldn) at no. 3, “Hawái” (Maluma) at no 4. And “Ice Cream” (BLACKPINK & Selena Gomez) at no. 5.

On the other hand, Billboard Global Excl. U.S. features the very same songs, but in a completely different order! The chart is topped by “Hawái” (Maluma), and then followed by “Dynamite” (BTS) at no. 2, “WAP” (Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion) at no. 3, “Mood” (24kGoldn) at no. 4 and “Ice Cream” (BLACKPINK & Selena Gomez) at no. 6.

Both charts will be published every Tuesday. The list of top 100 songs will be available for free at Billboard.com, while the full list of 200 songs will be only visible for Billboard subscribers.

Billie Eilish’s new album will be released after the pandemic

In a recent interview with The Herald Sun, Billie’s brother – Finneas – claimed that she would not release a new album until the pandemic is over. Both Billie and Finneas do not want their albums to “be a bummer COVID record.”

“I have a desperate desire not to release them during COVID-19. It’s the vaccine record! I want it to be the album everyone’s out dancing in the streets to,” says Finneas.

Earlier this year, Billie admitted that a new album would not be coming in 2020.

“This year, no, but I will be making it this year. But next few years? It’s coming. When it’s made. It’s not made yet,” says Billie.

Billie and Finneas have already released two singles this year – “My Future” and “No Time to Die.”

Riverdale starts filming its fifth season in Vancouver

“Riverdale” officially resumed the filming of its fifth season in Vancouver (Canada) on 14 September (Monday). To celebrate this occasion, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted a photo with Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petch and Cole Sprouse on his official Instagram.

“After fourteen days of quarantining 🇨🇦 and months of prep, #Riverdale Season 5 starts shooting tomorrow. Spent the night in the bubble, reminiscing with these lovely people and celebrating @lilireinhart 24th birthday. How time flies. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the gang this week. Here we go,” posts Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

“Riverdale” shut down its production back in March at the end of season 4 due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. The current work is done under strict safety guidelines, including self-isolation for two weeks before filming, social distance maintenance and PPE usage.

The fifth season of “Riverdale” is set to premiere in January 2021 on the CW, however, the exact date has yet to be provided.

One to watch: Away

“Away” is a 10-episode production released on 4 September on Netflix. The series follows a group of astronauts that embarks on a dangerous mission in space and leaves their families behind. In the course of their journey to Mars, they must face life-threating obstacles and deal with regular family problems on Earth.

“Away” stars Hilary Swank as Emma Green (as the leader of the entire mission), Vivian Wu as Wang, Mark Ivanir as Misha Popov, Ato Essandoh as Kwesi Weisberg-Abban, Ray Panthaki as Ram Arya, Talitha Bateman as Alexis Logan and Josh Charles as Matt Logan. The series was created by Andrew Hinderaker and executive-produced by Jason Katims, Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan & Ed Zwick.

The show illustrate Emma as a strong mission leader and a woman who feels confident with her skills. In almost each episode, she risks her own life to repair the spaceship or help the crew. She does not shy away from her emotions and doubts. “Away” is constructed around the current timeline and flashbacks from the past. Viewers can actually see how previous experiences shaped the characters and led them to participate in a historic mission. As we near towards the end of season 1, we can see five different people finally transforming into one team and overcoming the greatest obstacle of all. Will they eventually manage to get to Mars and successfully land there?

All in all, “Away” is a rather good production for binge-watching which greatly focuses on mission complications, problem solving and crew dynamics. It is a nice way to spend your weekend, especially if you would like to see that no hope has been lost.
