Meghan Markle names a sponsorship in Archie’s name
Meghan Markle is the patron of The Mayhew animal charity and she recently wrote a special foreword for their 2019 annual review. In the short introduction, the Duchess of Sussex spoke about the organization’s efforts amid the on-going pandemic and revealed that she sponsored a dog kennel in her son’s name.
“As I write, the Covid-19 crisis is gripping every country in the world and destabilising the lives of countless families across the UK. I am proud of how Mayhew have responded by finding new ways to support animals and people in these uncertain times,” writes Meghan. “What I am even prouder of is that Mayhew’s mission was made for moments like these. It’s not just about cats and dogs; it’s about all of us, about our ability to come together as a community. In the wake of Covid, we are reminded that our need to take care of one another is a vital part of the human spirit. Mayhew has always understood this.”
“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers, staff and students at Mayhew. As an expression of my own commitment, I renewed my sponsorship of a dog kennel in the name of our son, Archie, to create an interim home for a pet in need,” admits Meghan.
Meghan has been the patron of the charity since January 2019.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock shares her experience with racism
Amid the on-going protests against racism worldwide, Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix posted an emotional video on Instagram to talk about her experience with racism following the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
In the video, the singer talked about how her race impacted her time and career in the band and in her life.
“There comes a point in every Black human’s life… you realize racism does not exclude you. Nine years ago, after joining Little Mix, I had the biggest awakening of my life. When we were filming Wings, we worked with Frank Gatson. He said to me ‘you are the Black girl, you have to work ten times harder.’ Never in my life had someone told me I would need to work harder because of my race,” says Leigh-Anne. “My reality is feeling anxious before fan events and signings because I always feel like I’m the least favored. My reality is constantly feeling like I have to work ten times harder and longer to make my case in the group, because my talent alone isn’t enough.”
“My reality is all the times I felt invisible within my group. Part of me is fully aware that my experience would have been ever harder to deal with had I been dark-skinned. Our reality is no matter how far you think you’ve come, racism exists,” concludes the singer.
In recent times, Leigh-Anne Pinnock is one of many celebrities who are vocal about racial inequality and the need for change.
Justin Bieber benefited from black culture and wants to be part of a change
Justin Bieber shared a powerful post on social media on 6 May (Saturday). The singer admitted to having been inspired by black culture over the years. He also claimed that this is visible in his style – his singing, dancing, performance and fashion.
Amid on-going protests against racial injustice, Justin promised to use his platform to fight against racial inequality. The singer also wishes to be part of this change.
“I am inspired by black culture. I have benefited off of black culture,” writes Justin. “My style, how I sing, dance, perform, and my fashion have all been influenced and inspired by black culture. I am committed to using my platform this day forward to learn, to speak up about racial injustice and systemic oppression, and to identify ways to be a part of much needed change.”
Justin Bieber has recently been very vocal about where he stands. He was urging his own fans to educate themselves and advocate against racism in their communities.
Vanessa Morgan addresses racism in Riverdale
Vanessa Morgan addressed the issue of racism on the set of “Riverdale” last week. The actress admitted to having been used only as a sidekick to lead characters and having been paid the least of all series regulars.
In the series of tweets, Vanessa announced that she would not be quiet anymore and would stand up for black people.
“Tired of how black people are portrayed in media. Tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous or angry scary people. Tired of us also being used as side kick non dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show. It starts with the media,” writes Vanessa.
As a response to Vanessa’s claims, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “Riverdale” creator, issued an official apology to her and promised to do better in the future.
“We hear Vanessa. We love Vanessa. She's right. We're sorry and we make the same promise that we did to her. We will do better to honor her and the character she plays. As well as all of our actors and characters of color,” admits Mr Aguirre-Sacasa. “CHANGE is happening and will continue to happen. Riverdale will get bigger, not smaller. Riverdale will be part of the movement, not outside it.”
Vanessa Morgan portrays Toni Topaz and is currently a series regular. The show has been renewed for a fifth season which is expected to premiere in January 2021.
